About Emily G. Cottrell

Emily Cottrell is a partner with Herold & Sager. The primary focus of her practice involves resolving complex insurance coverage and bad faith disputes.

Emily’s experience includes advising clients regarding underwriting, claims handling and insurance coverage under OCIP/CCIPs, identifying developments and trends in nationwide insurance law, and providing analysis of claims involving commercial general liability, directors and officers liability, automobile, and workers compensation policies.

Emily graduated from the University of Wisconsin—Madison, and subsequently earned her J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law. Throughout college and law school, Emily had several articles selected for publication as a contributing writer for San Diego Lawyer Magazine, including an interview of former Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court, Ronald M. George which won an Excellence in Journalism Award from the San Diego Press Club. She also contributed an article to her hometown publication “Shorewood Now and Then” in which she interviewed United States Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist who, like Emily, attended elementary school near the bluffs of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin.

Outside of work, Emily enjoys spending time at the beach, hiking, reading, and traveling with her family. Emily is also heavily involved in her local community, including serving as Co-Founder for the Clairemont Coalition on Homelessness.
